GORDON’S STUDIO ART reflects the current work of Oxford Artist, Gordon Whiting. Working within the lush rolling landscape of Oxfordshire, his paintings often demonstrate his love of the countryside where he spent his childhood days.
Educated at the Oxford School of Art, he studied under Reginald Grimshaw, Hubert Hennes and Lawrence Toynbee. It was here that he fell under the influences of Andre Derain, Henri Matisse and Amedeo Modigliani, which have been recurring themes in his work through the years.
“Sometimes I wish I had a style which is unique, but I dont! My approach to each painting is often dictated by the subject matter, perhaps the weather, or even the mood I’m in on any particular day. So I suppose in that respect every painting is unique.”
Each painting is therefore something of a revelation as to which road he will go down and is why his paintings have something for everyone – he would like to think that every painting he produces will make someone happy.
